The PGS-India logo is what a buyer actually sees, so the rules around it are strict. Chapter 7 of the official guidelines sets out who may use it, on what, and which of the two logos applies.

Products granted PGS-Organic certification use the PGS-India Organic logo. Products still in conversion and granted PGS-Green certification use the PGS-Green logo โ€” and may not be claimed as organic; only the indication "Under Conversion to Organic" may be used.

Conditions for Using the Logo

ConditionWhat it means
Packed under supervisionOnly when packed under the supervision of a registered PGS operator โ€” a farmer group, certified farmer or off-farm processor
Certified quantity onlyOnly on the quantity certified in the scope certificate and the yield or production approved by the RC
Unique ID codeUse of the logo without the unique ID code is not allowed
Separate logosOrganic and in-conversion products must carry their separate logos
Non-transferableThe right to use the logo rests with the registered group, farmer, or processing and handling operator โ€” not transferable unless the last point of the value chain before the consumer is covered by traceability and approved by PGS-NEC

The UID code is how a buyer checks you. Entering it in the consumer verification window on the PGS-India website shows the authenticity of the certificate and the name and address of the last-end handler. For full traceability of the value chain, consumers contact the Regional Council with the UID โ€” and RCs are duty-bound to provide that record on request.

The Scope Certificate Behind the Logo

Once approved by the Regional Council, a Local Group may use its scope certificate for publicity, trade enquiries and trade literature, and may use the granted logo. The certificate carries a unique number identifying the RC, the Local Group and its farmers, and lists the area, crops and products certified during the year as an annexure.

It is valid for 12 months from the date of decision approval by the RC, and is issued by season โ€” kharif, rabi and zaid โ€” subject to timely peer appraisal summary sheets and the other requirements such as group meetings and trainings.

What Else the Label Must Carry

Misuse of the PGS-India logo is a ground for complaint by anyone โ€” consumers, traders, retailers โ€” to the Zonal Council or Regional Council. For multi-ingredient products, whether the word "organic" may appear at all depends on the composition thresholds covered in the 95% rule.
